Throwback Thursday – Our Wedding!

I decided to do a Throwback Thursday today and bring it back to May 19, 2012.  The day I married my forever-love…Sigh…. We got married at the beautiful Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.  We fell in love at UCSB and knew we wanted to get married in that amazing city.  Well, technically the Polo Club is in Carpinteria, but you get my drift…

I want to show you guys pictures from our wedding not just because it was the best night of my life 🙂 but because we incorporated DIY throughout our special day.  I wish I took pics of all the projects and steps involved but unfortunately I was too distracted.  But our AMAZING photographers Austin & Dara took awesome photos of the day and I want to share those with you all! {Side note: I can’t link Austin & Dara’s website because they transitioned to another field.}

I knew I wanted a vintage/rustic themed wedding and hubby to be was all for that!  Rentals add up fast, but thankfully I love to craft & DIY so I was excited to get my hands dirty and save some money!  If you plan to DIY for your big day, my only tidbit of advise is to plan ahead and not leave the last few weeks to work on these projects!  They take time and I don’t want you to be stressed out!  As you get closer to your wedding a lot of things start happening and you need to focus on yourself and the beautiful day ahead.

Since we got married at the polo fields, there was PLENTY of space which was awesome!  We set up bocce ball and croquet to make use of the space and have some fun too.  I made the below sign with reclaimed wood from my mom’s house (it was an old fence).  Isn’t it cute?

To go with the rustic theme, we used shepherd hooks and mason jars to line the aisle.  I bought twine and wrapped it around the jars to create the handle and our florist, Sarah Hinton of Rincon Floral, did an amazing job on the flowers.  I was obsessed!Details-014Details-013

My mother-in-law helped so much with our wedding.  She had an eye for everything vintage.  She found this door at an antique shop by her house.  My father-in-law screwed in some pieces of wood to the back so it could stand on its own.  I purchased the side tables at Ross.  We loved the idea of standing in front of a door that’s leading to the next chapter in our lives.

To make our table numbers, I found these cute wooden picture frames at the 99 Cent Store.  I put chalkboard paint over the glass and that was it!  Inexpensive and adorable!Details-025Details-010Details-042

I made this “Love is Sweet” burlap bunting for our dessert bar.  After all, isn’t love sweet?Details-038

For our menu board, I found an awful painting at a thrift store, slapped some chalkboard paint over it and then painted and distressed the frame from paint I already had.  I think the whole project cost $10!  And we have this chalkboard hanging in our kitchen now.  I absolutely love it!

My sister Sharon is a pastry chef; pretty good at it I might add (and I’m not just saying this because she’s my sister!) so I asked her to make her famous granola for our favors.  Her granola is bomb and I thought it’d be a tasty favor!  I bought the bags in bulk so they were pretty cheap and then stamped our letters on the bag.

Some other vintage finds from our wedding: “Just Married” Window frame, vintage mail box which held our cards and the tree was a purchase from Etsy.  We used the tree as our “Guest Book” where everyone stamped their finger prints as leaves.  It’s a piece of art that’s now hanging in our living room.  Details-002

And last but certainly not least, I also wanted to post a picture of our parents.  I never would have guessed that less than 4 years later my father and mother-in-law would be gone.  I’ll be writing posts about them soon.  I miss them so much.

  1. Love love love all these projects!! I think the chalk board paint over the cheap frames is the smartest idea ever! Your wedding was gorgeous, sister. I never even realized how much DIY you took on! So talented. Wish we could relive that night again!
